Montpellier has been appointed by ConstructionSkills as one of only five organisations to work with their Professional Services team in developing and delivering products and services to support the construction industry. Green Deal Over a quarter of the UK’s green house gas emissions come from existing housing stock. Given the government’s target of reducing these emissions by 80% by 2050, successfully tackling carbon emissions from existing housing stock will be critical. The “Green Deal” is the coalition government’s flagship policy for improving the energy efficiency of buildings in Great Britain and will be available from autumn 2012. It will allow a new financial mechanism that will allow a range of measures, such as insulation, heating or lighting, draught proofing to be installed in people’s homes and businesses at no upfront cost. The Green Deal is based on the principle that some energy efficiency measures related changes to properties where they have the potential to pay for themselves. The Government expects the policy will see billions of pounds lent every year with 14 million of the UK’s 27 million homes expected to benefit. It also predicts it will create 100,000 jobs by 2015. Montpellier has been chosen by a partnership of Dept of Energy and Climate Change and the Green Deal Skills Alliance to develop and deliver a series of online learning resource modules to support the UK Construction Industry in understanding the process and providing learning and development approaches to delivering it effectiively.
